My Story and My Why
My health has always been a top priority in my life, but my perspective on health is not what it has always been. After years of disordered eating and neglecting my mental and emotional health and the role they play on physical health, a postpartum season was my wake-up call. It was the catalyst for a change, and I was all in. Along with nurturing my body physically, I needed to create peace and practice rituals that calmed my nervous system, and that is when Megan Kay Health & Wellness was born.
To become the best version of myself, I needed to live in alignment with the things that lit me up inside, my health being one of them.
Creating the best version of myself would create the best version of Meg for myself, my family, my career, and everything that would come with it.
Shortly after this realization in those early postpartum months, I dove into my Health Coach certification through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I fell in love with learning about the lifestyle changes we can make to support our multidimensional health, practicing the rituals that work for us, and giving ourselves the grace to let go of the things that don’t. I realized that health was not as complicated as the world makes it seem, and it actually boils down to some very simple truths, while also being incredibly bio-individual and requiring that we turn inward and figure out what works for YOU.
As a teenager and young adult, I struggled with chronic stomach aches, acne, seasons of depression, hormonal dysregulation, autoimmune diseases, and gut dysbiosis. All of which affected by personal, social, and professional life. I found things to mask symptoms for a while, but the root causes always prevailed, and usually with greater force. Along with countless doctor’s appointments and medications without answers, I was caught up in diet culture from a very young age, and turned to the one thing I could control, food.
So, I get to my why… there is a better way. There is a better way to address the root cause of these chronic symptoms and so many of the imbalances that we face can be fixed, or at least helped, naturally. By changing the way I lived, I brought my body back to a state of balance mentally, physically, and emotionally. I made decisions from a place of healing and nurturing myself, rather than the restriction that diet culture had taught me for so many years.
I learned that so many of the chronic conditions that I’d treated with unnecessary medications and treated individually, were all interconnected and could be improved with lifestyle adjustments alone.
Knowing that so many people are on a similar journey, it became a mission of mine to bring light to these lifestyle factors that have improved the overall quality of my life, hoping that it can do the same for others. Our goals are within reach, and we deserve to enjoy the process.
Our health is a continuous journey, one we should constantly re-evaluate and enjoy. I’m so glad you’re here!
