What is a Health Coach?
Health coaches, you may know some, you may have heard of them, and you also probably know that there is an entire industry that has a common goal in mind, guiding a community in improving our health. So what is a health coach? And how is it different that a nutritionist, a functional doctor, and all the other titles with a similar goal in mind?
Health coaches focus on guiding clients in creating and maintaining long-term and sustainable lifestyle changes to help them reach their health and wellness goals and improve their quality of life.
These goals range from losing weight, increasing energy throughout the day, improving focus, reducing brain fog, and improving one’s relationship with food, just to name a few. Health coaches use a combination of traditional and modern approaches to acknowledge the bio-individuality of each person, empowering them to implement the practices that resonate with them and let go of the ones that don’t. Using a forward-thinking approach, we guide clients in identifying what their goals are, what roadblocks have kept them from achieving these goals in the past and creating customized and actionable road maps to not only achieve them, but sustain them over their lifetime. I’ve used the word ‘sustainable’ a few times now, and that’s on purpose. Gone are the days of quick fixes, fad diets, and implementing habits that you know you’re not going to do forever. Your health shouldn’t be complicated and by creating habits and rituals that become habitual as you look at health from the lens of your whole self, what we call a multi-dimensional lens, the results stick.
So, who would benefit from a health coach? If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of the following questions, you could benefit from working with a health coach! Remember, health coaches are likely going to work with different niches, so find someone that specializes in the goals you are wanting to accomplish.
